3 Signs Your Date Has Emotional Baggage

Nothing ruins the fun of a second date like someone who's carrying too much emotional baggage.

Whether it's sharing too many stories about their ex, rushing things, or telling one too many self-deprecating jokes, learning how to spot emotional baggage can make you a better dater.

We all have emotional baggage of our own, but dealing with someone else’s is a different story entirely.

But how do you tell if your date is still carrying emotional baggage from a previous relationship?

Watch out for these 3 signs of emotional baggage on your next second date:

1. They talk about their ex too much
While most people know to not discuss their ex on a first date, some people with emotional baggage overshare on the second date. Talking about an ex too much on a second date could be a sign that your date has not closed the chapter on their last relationship. While everyone processes breakups differently, too much chit chat about their ex could just mean your date isn't ready to move on.

2. They talk about their ex with anger or resentment
Expressing negative emotions such as anger or resentment towards an ex may indicate that the person has not fully processed or come to terms with the end of their last relationship. They may be holding onto feelings of hurt, betrayal, or injustice, especially if it was a tumultuous divorce. Nothing screams 'bitter' more than complaining about child support or alimony on a first date.

3. They are rushing you
Rushing into a relationship can be a huge red flag. It often indicates that the person is trying to fill a void or escape from their own problems. They may be using the relationship as a distraction or as a way to feel validated and secure. Additionally, if a person is carrying emotional baggage, they may not be fully ready for a healthy, balanced relationship and may struggle to communicate their needs and boundaries effectively. It it feels too quick it probably is.

Are you worried you might have too much emotional baggage?

Replace the “They” with “I” and ask yourself if any of the three signs sound familiar.
